Scoping Study of Revitalisation and Greening of Lombard Street
This Scoping Study carried out for Belfast Healthy Cities addressed how and what can be done to improve the environmental and health and social wellbeing of Lombard Street – for those working there; for those proposed to be living there; for those using and passing through the street; and for those who have responsibility and investment in its current built and spatial environment. The study notes the street’s unique history; records the authoritative “lived experience” of the street’s current “residents”; summarises the possible initiatives resourced by the miscellaneous public bodies with responsibilities for the street; highlights some urban planning and design best practice experience from elsewhere on the island of Ireland, the UK and internationally – and makes reasoned suggestions for actions – immediate, short and long term – which, with shared and collaborative commitment, should make an enhanced difference to the lived experience in Lombard Street. The work was carried out in codesign with Lombard Street residents and staff of responsible bodies.from public bodies with responsibilities for the street.
